Featured in Axios: DuneGlass and Pura Vida form Aviva Aesthetics medspa platform

Sep 20, 2024

Aviva Aesthetics CEO Tyler Weinberg and founding partner Leslie Apgar recently discussed the company’s launch with Axios.

DuneGlass Capital and Pura Vida Med Spa have partnered to form Aviva Aesthetics, a med spa management services organization (MSO).

The mission:

Give med spa owners the support they need without selling their businesses to private equity. Make them owners of the med spa platform so they can earn 2-3x what they would with other exit opportunities when the platform is sold. Teach them about private equity and the MSO business model so that they can make the best decisions for their med spas and their clients.

The goal:

Aviva aims to build a $150-$250 million revenue business. With a pipeline of 75 med spas, Aviva is targeting medical aesthetics entrepreneurs who want to shape the future of the industry.

How it works:

Similar to other sponsor approaches in health care services — see DuneGlass-backed oral surgery platform Allied OMS — Aviva’s MSO model gives med spa owners equity in the business.

What we’re saying:

“I had been approached by multiple private equity firms who wanted to talk about buying my practice and I was left with a really bad taste in my mouth, because the traditional private equity model was not kind to the entrepreneur owners,” says Leslie Apgar, owner and medical director of Pura Vida.
